Spray Foam Insulation

Where NOT to use it -

Closed cell spray foam is a great product for sealing out every little air leak. But, it will hinder your ability to inspect the structure if it is installed in the rim (band) joist area of the crawl space. This issue will come into play when selling a home or getting a termite inspection.

Mold and Mildew

Quick Facts -

  • Mold can only be identified under a microscope
  • There are more than 100,000 different kinds of Mold
  • Bleach is NOT recommended to kill Mold on porous surfaces

How to Close Crawl Space Foundation Vents

Although it may seam more difficult to close your foundation vent with a concrete block it is actually not that hard and far more cost effective. The franchise companies sell their "vent covers" for around $25 each. To close your vent with a cement block will cost you about $3. Vent covers will not keep out the winter temperatures or keep the mice out (I have see them chew through metal). Cement block are easily accessible at you local home improvement center as well as the mortar or cement caulk

Installation of Foundation Seal Tape

Like any tape you want to make sure the surface is clean. A small hand broom works well and will get the job done. A steel wire brush is too coarse and will cause unneeded surface dust. The only time this tape won't work is when the foundation block is either damp or dirty. If it is to damp to stick you can use a polyurethane caulk to seal the DrySpace™ to the foundation after the foundation pins are installed.
